An All-New Project by the Russian Translators Union

Word & Law Company has emerged as an official partner of a project initiated by the Union of Translators of Russia and has received the support of the Moscow City Government (the project was honored with the Civil Initiatives nomination at the 2023 Moscow Mayor Grants competition, Agreement #229-GM/23 on 10/10/2023). Its implementation will take place over the period of January-December 2024.

The project’s main objective will be to develop and gain approval for an experimental model for the institution of court interpreting and sworn translation to improve the efficiency of Moscow city law enforcement authorities’ procedure for defending the interests and rights of citizens and organizations. The following are some of its main objectives:

a) organizing and monitoring the state of court translation in the city of Moscow;

b) launching experimental programs for advancing court interpreters’ and translators’ qualifications;

c) conducting a cycle of enlightenment events for law enforcement authority offices regarding formats for working with court interpreters;

d) development of and gaining approval for a model for an electronic court interpreters register;

e) preparation of the requisite conditions to integrate accumulated experience from all over Russia into the practice.

The project’s target audience is law enforcement agency subjects; translators and interpreters performing duties at law enforcement authorities’ offices; students of high profile college majors (future lawyers and linguists); community and media representatives; as well as legal defenders.
