Document Recovery and Legalization in the Republic of Kazakhstan
Pravo & Slovo provides services for obtaining, apostilling, and legalizing documents issued in the Republic of Kazakhstan.
There are two main ways to legalize documents issued in Kazakhstan, depending on the requirements of the destination country.
Method 1: Apostille on the Original Document
Estimated processing time: approximately 3 to 5 business days.
To obtain documents, we usually need:
- a power of attorney;
- a scanned copy of the passport;
- a document confirming a change of surname, if applicable.
Until recently, a Kazakh IIN was also required.
The Individual Identification Number (IIN) is a personal identification number assigned to an individual, whether a citizen of Kazakhstan or a foreign national. It is broadly comparable to a tax or personal identification number used in other countries. Citizens of Kazakhstan receive an IIN at birth, while foreign nationals may receive one when obtaining legal status in the country.
At present, it is possible to obtain and legalize documents without providing personal identification numbers.
Method 2: Full Consular Legalization
Consular legalization includes several stages:
- preparation of a notarized copy of the original document;
- translation into the required foreign language;
- notarization of the translation;
- certification by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan confirming the authenticity of the notary’s signature and seal;
- certification by the embassy or consulate of the destination country confirming the authenticity of the signature and seal of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs official.
The timeframe, cost, and procedural details for document recovery or legalization are discussed individually for each request.
