If you've been looking for an opportunity to move to Italy, this may be just what you were hoping for!

Article 27 of the main Order regulating special case entry into Italy (Legislative Decree #286 as of 7/25/1998) has been complemented by item q. “Highly qualified remote employees” and “digital nomads” who wish to move to Italy no longer need a quota to do so.

All candidates have to do is meet the following requirements:

  • have a yearly income at least three times greater than the minimum level necessary for exemption from expenses for taking part in the medical service program (about 28,000 euros);
  • hold medical insurance covering treatment expenses in Italy for the entire period of their residence;
  • have obtained residence in Italy (whether by rental or by ownership);
  • have worked for at least 6 months as a digital nomad or remote employee.

Furthermore, an applicant for this type of visa must submit a form in which they confirm that they have a clean police record.

The foreigner must apply for a temporary residence permit within eight business days after entering Italy. A temporary residence permit is issued for a period of 1 year and is extended every year as long as the foreigner observes all of the aforementioned requirements. This visa provides the right to process documents for close relatives (minor children and parents in certain cases) as well.
