Egypt is not among the group of countries party to the Hague Convention of 1961 signed to simplify document certification procedure, so there’s no reason to apostille Russian documents intended for use in that country.

All documents issued and written up in the Russian Federation, both on behalf of individuals and companies must undergo consular certification procedure.

So, what's the “classical” consular certification process like for personal documents?

  • Step 1: make notarized copies of the originals  (exception: documents written up by a notary, such as powers of attorney, agreements, etc.).
  • Step 2: translate it into the official language of Egypt – Arabic or Arabic and English.
  • Step 3: notarize the translation.
  • Step 4: submit the documents to the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation.
  • Step 5: submit the documents to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.
  • Step 6: submit documents to the consular department of the Egyptian Embassy in Moscow.

There are some documents that according to the requirements of the consular department of the Egyptian Embassy cannot be certified in the above way. Those types of documents include documents of Russian companies (the consulate considers them commercial).

Usually, they are written up in English and translated into Arabic or English. Sometimes they are originally written up in English (for instance, certificates of origin and invoices).

The translations of certain documents must be notarized. The translation of other documents (certificates of origin, invoices, free trade certificates), meanwhile, do not need to be notarized or receive the seal of a contour.

Commercial documents are certified via the Chamber of Trade and Commerce of the Russian Federation.

The following are the two main stages for getting commercial documents certified:

Certification procedure stage 1: getting the seals of the regional representative of the CTC stamped on them (in cases where documents are issued in one of the regions of the Russian Federation).

IMPORTANT NOTE! Unless a seal is stamped, certification at the CTC of the Russian will be impossible and the Egyptian Embassy will in turn not accept the documents without approval from the CTC of the Russian Federation.

The certification process of the CTC of the Russian Federation takes one business day.

Certification procedure stage 2: submitting and obtaining documents at the Egyptian Embassy in Moscow. The wait for certification at the Embassy is 3-4 business days.

The owner of the documents is not required to personally be present for either of the certification stages.
