Forfeiture of Russian Citizenship Resulting from a Russian Citizen's Failure to Swear under Oath
Since September 1, 2017, all persons who've obtained Russian citizenship have been obligated to take a Russian Federation citizen’s oath.
This duty to take a Russian Federation citizen’s oath also applies to citizens of the new regions of Russia: the Zaporozhia and Kherson Oblasts, and the Donetsk and Lugansk Republics.
Russian Federation Presidential Decree N 889 on 11/22/2023 established that persons who've obtained Russian Federation citizenship after September 1, 2017 and by November 22, 2024 have failed to take a Russian Federation citizen’s oath are thereby deemed as having forfeited Russian citizenship and any resolutions to grant Russian Federation citizenship to said persons shall be thus considered invalidated.
