How does one go entering into a new marriage in the Russian Federation if a previous marriage took place in Russia but a divorce was subsequently filed abroad?
Despite the widespread misconception: the following is not required to enter into a new marriage at a Civil Registry Office of the Russian Federation:
1) notifying a Russian civil registration authority that a divorce took place abroad;
2) providing a certificate to the Russian civil registration authority proving that the Russian Federation citizen is not married.
To enter into a new marriage, all that’s required is to visit a Civil Registry Office with:
- a form;
- a passport;
- a certified document, translated into Russian, from a foreign national that a divorce took place abroad.
